These professional development seminars offer a thematic unit with integrated curriculum for Communication Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies, as well as a tool kit with reproducible activities and electronic resources.

 

Touring the Solar System – Grades K-4

Inspire enthusiasm in young learners with a tour through the solar system, where they will explore the diverse worlds that make up our celestial neighborhood.  Introduce new vocabulary and early physics principles related to force and motion, all while igniting their imaginations!

Students will:

·         Describe and Categorize celestial bodies

·         Investigate basic of planetary motion

·         Compare the size and scale of the solar system

 

Field Trip to the Moon – Grades 3-6

Take your students on a journey that is out of this world as they explore our closet neighbor in space. Students will investigate the origins and everyday interactions that forge the endless bond between the moon and our home planet.

Students will:

·         Explore gravitational forces and their effects

·         Investigate the causes of synchronous orbit and moon phases

·         Compare human activity on both Earth and its moon

 

Mission to Mars – Grades 5-8

NASA is planning its first manned-mission to Mars in 2035… Are your students ready?  Guide them through the challenging obstacles and amazing benefits of traveling to the Red Planet!  Introduce design principles and basic biology involved with an extended trip through space.

Students will:

·         Evaluate the habitability of Mars as compared to Earth

·         Explore the physiological effects of space travel

·         Design a human settlement on Mars and plan the trips to take us there.

Sky School for Educators  (Advance registration required)

Friday 9/25-4p.m.-6p.m.-Teachers grades K-4-Topic-Travel through the Solar System-Cost $40 per teacher.  Fee includes Toolkit with variety of resources to be able to replicate activities in classroom, hands-on practice with various activities, snack and supplies.

Saturday 9/26-10 a.m.-12 p.m.-Teachers of grades 3-6-Topic-Moon- Cost $40 per teacher.  Fee includes Toolkit with variety of resources to be able to replicate activities in classroom, hands-on practice with various activities, snack and supplies.

Saturday 9/26-2p.m.-4p.m.-Teachers of grades 5-8-Topic-Mars- Cost $40 per teacher.  Fee includes Toolkit with variety of resources to be able to replicate activities in classroom, hands-on practice with various activities, snack and supplies.
