International Year Of Astronomy

DCS has revolved around the sun for an entire year. We have seen the stars and planets in various areas in the sky. We have built 5 permanent exhibits and had 3 special astronomy events this year.

We invite you to a few more events during the last month of the year-long celebration. Friday, December 11, 2009 5-8pm will be the last Star Party, held on the DCS patio. Thank you to members of the Springfield Astronomical Society for a year of star-gazing through telescope!.

Bring your family during the holidays to experience our International Year of Astronomy Wrap-up Week. last Astronomy Week. DCS will be open Monday, December 28 from 9am-5pm as well as the rest of the week. There will be a variety of classes and activities available, special BrainByte demonstrations, plus star gazing from inside a portable star lab.

Discovery Science Club
If you missed the Discovery Science Club this year, be on the lookout for our summer workshops! Topics and enrollment info. will be available to members in March, and non-members in April.

Join Discovery Center for a low key discussion on "Sustainable Energy" Presented by Gary Stacey, PHD and Director, Center for Sustainable Energy at University of Missouri Columbia. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010-Chinese New Year - Come Celebrate the Year of the Tiger.

Come join us for a different sort of holiday. Learn about the lunar calendar and Chinese culture surrounding this important day. It is a wonderful experience with lots of activities for children and adults. General admission required. No preregistration required.

February 19, 2010 — Science Sprouts Museum Day
Science Sprouts Museum Day Topic is "I'm an Inventor" 9-5pm

Museum Days just for Early Childhood Learners (up to age 6). Includes special story time at 10am & 1pm and science presentations at 11am and 2pm geared to young learners. Groups may schedule 30 minute programs for an additional fee. For Kindergarten or 1st grade classes, MOPS groups, day care providers, preschools, playgroups and families. Explore the fun of science and science of fun. General admission applies.
