Our holiday fundraising events have come and gone already! The Festival of Trees annual gala entertained over 175 of our sponsors and supporters for an evening of good food, friends, and unique learning experiences within the midst of our exhibit space. Guests watched Springfield’s own celebrity chef, James Clary create spherical custard while Maxon’s jewelers displayed the secrets behind ancient Damascus steel knives. There were over 160 silent and live auction items to choose from. Some lucky finds went for less than $20.00 while other items were fiercely contended over, going for thousands of dollars. When all was said and done the night appeared to be a success. Overall just over $114,000 was raised for the museum.
The ending dollar figure was not the only success of the evening. The staff and volunteers put in extra hours setting up for the party and take down immediately afterwards well into the midnight hour. Set up and clean up went smoothly with no lost items, trips, slips, or falls. The ledgers for the evening balanced out perfectly on the first round. Our volunteers helped put down our leftover custard as well as the tables and chairs. Our donors put forward not only their financial support, but their time and other resources additionally in support of the Center.
