Neighborhood Assistance Program Tax Credits (NAP)

Discovery Center is honored to have Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits available for donors, but what you many not realize is the tremendous difference your tax credit gifts make for all students in our schools locally and througout our rural region.  Your gifts make possible opportunities for students to receive our unique, engaging, and relevant methods of teaching science and culture.

How you can Help

Your gifts help DCS provide supplies and equipment for activities and experiments, and your gifts make the difference in providing this program to schools throughout the SW Missouri region.  Our wish would be to provide this program to every elementary school.

These 50% credits are available until June 30, 2014.  Currently DCS has $171,151 in credits remaining which will leverage $342,302 in contributions to support our mission.  Qualified donations can be made by check, credit card, or stock.  Minimum donation is $1,000.  Contact Emily Fox, Executive Director.

How NAP Helps You

The financial benefit to eligiable donors is a 50% state tax credit in addition to a federal charitable tax deduction for qualified donations.  The philanthropic benefit is the knowledge that your NAP tax donation can affect the lives of children in our community forever.  Programs such as ScienceWorks on the Road have seen 30% gains in science knowledge from students participating with their schools.  Programs like this help create a long-lasting energy and excitement for learning.  The community benefit is the opportunity to empower a child to transform their life and our world.

Quote from a student

"Thank you for coming to my school and teaching me about all the cool things.  Your teaching made all of the subjects easy to understand and fun."

"...you were very helpful at all the things you did.  You helped me understand science better. You made science more fun."

Quote from Teacher Ashley Blake, Webb City, Mark Twain Elementary (Gr 3)

"I enjoyed having a teacher come that was able to focus completely on science. My students and I enjoyed the program a great deal.  The teacher was wonderful and the lessons were well prepared.  I feel like I could not have taught the lesson as well as she did."
