America’s Road: The Journey of Route 66

Share in the history and fascination with one of the world’s most famous highways. America’s Road: The Journey of Route 66, sponsored by Aaron Sachs & Associates, includes photographs, narrative, music, and antiques on display that celebrate the rich history of America’s beloved Mother Road.  The exhibit will be open from Thursday, June 1 through Saturday, September 30, and is appropriate for all ages. Membership Referal Month

Love to play and learn at DCS? Refer a new member in the month of September and receive an extension of 4 months on both your membership and your new member friend's membership! New members are anyone who has not had a membership in the past 12 months. To claim the reward, new members must give the name and Membership ID number of the referring member for both members to receive the extra months. Enter this information in the comments box when purchasing your membership online, on the paper application form if purchasing in person, or mention it to our staff when purchasing over the phone. Grandparents Day
Sunday, September 10 from 1:00-5:00 pm

Celebrate Grandma and Grandpa on Sunday, September 10 from 1:00-5:00 pm. Grandparents receive FREE admission for Grandparent's Day, so be sure to stop by for STEM family fun for all ages.

Homeschool Days: Electricity and Magnetism
Tuesday, September 12 from 10:00-11:00 am

Homeschool Days are back for another year of science exploration. Learn with DCS Stem Instructors through experiments and hands-on learning in STEM topics like, microbiology, chemistry, 3D printing and more, all while meeting other homeschooling families. This month, join us for an electrifying lesson on Electricity and Magnetism on Tuesday, September 12 from 10:00-11:00 am. Cost is $15 for member children/$20 for nonmember children. Members Only 2nd Annual Tinkerfest 
Saturday, September 16 between 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Come tinker, take apart, create, and make with us in this second annual FREE MEMBERS ONLY come and go event on Saturday, September 16 between 10:00 am-3:00 pm in the auditorium. Create a toy car using deconstructed electronics to take home. Members are encouraged to bring tools for tinkering. Limit 50 kids, so register before by calling 417-862-9910. This event fills up quickly, so reserve your spot today!

Science Sprouts: Magnet Mania and ALL NEW Mommy Mingle
Friday, September 22 at 10:00 am with Mommy Mingle at 9:00 am

Come learn about electricity and magnetism at the Discovery Center in this month's Science Sprouts Day on Friday, September 22! Learn why opposites attract and play with different types of magnets including our liquid magnetic ferrofluid. You will hear what things in your house use the magnetic force and the differences between naturally occurring and man-made magnets. Activities and story times begin at 10 am but join us in our Wonderland exhibit at 9:00 am for a Mommy Mingle with coffee. Science Sprout activities, including Mommy Mingle, are FREE with the cost of admission. For more information, click here.

Museum Day Live

Museum Day Live! is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Night at the Museum
Saturday, September 30 from 6:00-9:00 pm

Discovery Center of Springfield invites you to be a mad scientist at our adults only 2nd Annual Night at the Museum on Saturday, September 30. Last year, more than 200 individuals attended the event and explored 60,000 square feet of exhibits, blew up bubbles with our Education department, and enjoyed food and drinks from local restaurants and vendors. Tickets for this adult only event include all food and beverages, including a mad scientist cocktail! Secure your tickets now for a night of STEM fun at Discovery Center through 417 Tix
